2005.
To: All NIDOE Chapter Chairpersons
To: All Nigerian Community / Professional Organisations
To: All Nigerians in the UK and Mainland Europe
Fellow Nigerians,
Pre-Conference Forum in the Nigeria High Commission, London on
Saturday, 19 February 2005: General invitation and Invitation
to submit papers towards the Nigerian Political Reform Conference.
Further to my earlier communication regarding the forthcoming
National Political Reform Conference in Nigeria, I write on behalf
of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation
Europe (NIDOE), to invite you to a Pre-conference Forum which
will take place at the Nigeria High Commission, 9 Northumberland
Avenue, London WC2N 5BX, the UK on Saturday, 19 February 2005,
as from 6.00 pm prompt.
2. I also wish to invite suitably qualified individuals or groups
of Nigerians to submit papers for consideration and possible presentation
at the Forum. The papers to be submitted should be along the lines
of the Reform Agenda as conceived by the Government of Nigeria,
namely Constitutional Reforms, Political Party Reforms, Electoral
Reforms, Judicial / Legal Reforms, Civil Society Reforms, Consultation
and Consensus Building, Police / Prison Systems Reforms, and Reforms
of the Structure of Governance. To be eligible for consideration,
papers should clearly indicate the specific reform agenda being
addressed, must include an Executive Summary, a brief Bio of the
author with full contact details and should be sent in electronic
format (Word) to the Executive Secretary at nweke.collins@pandora.be
cc. info@nidoeurope.org by Thursday, 10 February 2005.
3. We are conscious of and apologize for the short deadline, but
are expecting that papers to be presented for consideration are
results of recently concluded or ongoing research work, which
though generally within the remit of the Reform Agenda, might
require only slight adaptation for the benefit of the present
purpose.
4. The Pre-conference Forum is free and is open to NIDOE members,
individual Nigerians and representatives of diverse Nigeria community
/ professional organisations in the UK and Mainland Europe. The
Forum shall benefit from a keynote intervention by His Excellency,
Dr Christopher Kolade, the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK,
as well as an open forum with the audience, all of which shall
culminate in key recommendations.
5. At the Forum two major Working Groups would be constituted:
WG Politics and WG Governance, comprising of experts from different
disciplines. The appointed leaderships of the WGs shall work with
and advise the official Diaspora delegates, thereby maximizing
the Diaspora input in the National Political Reform process. Membership
of the Working Group is open to all Nigerians. If you wish to
be considered for membership, please indicate per email as soon
as possible, but not later than 10 February 2005.
6. Please indicate your participation to enable us send you further
Forum documents. In the meantime, should you have any specific
questions regarding the Forum, please do not hesitate to contact
the Secretariat.
Thank you,
Dr. Olufemi Olojugba
Chairman
